Silicon Vallley Institute for Global Sustainability (svIGS)

A working site into which we can pour our ideas for refinement

The ideas here will be 'strawman/strawdog' ideas subject to addition and revision by the group

Purpose of the Institute

In the early 1970s (check), Finn Kyland (sp?) wrote a paper while at (?) for which we eventually won a nobel prize.  In part, the paper suggested that volitility in government regulation (measured by tax policy) caused a cost on industry by itself.  The paper (as recalled by this author--need to verify specific language) advocated for more predictable public policy.

In the world of environmental regulation, we might argue that there exists similar volitility.  Volatility in this domain is increasing.  It is often described as something to the effect of 'not having visibility into future events'.  Our job in linking the conversation between industry, researchers, public policy, and civil society is to better set expectations for future policy.  We help our constituency see more clearly into the future of government regulation.  We do not advocate policy per se, but we do publisize the facts about which policies are working and the context of the performance.
